From our passion for gritty, true-life adaptions to our support of bold, original fare, Oil & Cattle is a film and television production company devoted, above all, to empowering storytellers—be them established veterans or fresh voices on the cusp of breaking through. Founded by Thomas Carter, Justin Herber, Adam Hoff, and Teddy Smith, Oil & Cattle blends their sharp narrative instincts with keen market insights to produce exceptional, commercially viable projects rooted in humanized storytelling.
To date, Oil & Cattle has optioned over a dozen properties and partnered with numerous name-brand companies. Our development slate includes high-profile, genre-spanning projects that underscore our commitment to fostering culturally urgent, broadly entertaining narratives like: Dawn by Octavia Butler (Amazon, in partnership with MACRO and Ava DuVernay), Carson County (Black Label Media), The Goxfather (adapted from a Rolling Stone article, with Jon M. Chu), and West Texas Medical (NBC/Universal Television, in collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way). Additional projects include The Fence (Universal Television) and The Brothers Ortiz (Bosque Ranch, Campside Media), alongside a diverse range of additional adapted and original works in development.
